On Friday, August 1, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Ghanaian Highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, also known as Daddy Lumba, accompanied by members of the Minority in Parliament and prominent members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
There were tearful moments during the visit to Daddy Lumba’s home as the former president broke down in tears after receiving official word of the musician’s death. After a brief illness, Daddy Lumba passed away at the Bank Hospital in Accra on Saturday, July 26.
Akufo-Addo paid a moving homage to Daddy Lumba, calling him a national treasure whose songs had a lasting impact on both his political career and Ghana’s entertainment sector.
He noted how the artist’s national popularity was greatly boosted by his campaign songs. I’m here to offer you my sympathies.
It hurts to see him die. Please accept my deepest sympathies; you have lost a wonderful person. He made a significant contribution to my political career. Akufo-Addo informed the family, “I won’t be able to finish talking about the great work Lumba did for me if I start today.”
Because of the songs he wrote for me, my name is well-known throughout the nation. Regardless of political affiliation, the songs have an impact. I was grateful to him while he was living. He performed a tonne of work, so I made sure he got an award,” he continued.

In addition to expressing a strong desire to be involved in all plans, the former president pledged to support the family during the funeral. Additionally, he promised the widow that he would continue to assist the late musician’s children. One of the best musicians Ghana has ever produced was Daddy Lumba. His name will always be associated with the history of the nation.
“I respectfully request that I be included in all funeral-related activities, and I will fully support the arrangements. If I were excluded, it would make me very upset. I sincerely appreciate everything he did for me; my name will live on in Ghana because of the campaign songs he wrote in my praise. Future generations will hear those songs. Please don’t worry, widow; we shall be there for you and the kids.
Former Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare, former ministers, MPs, members of the Minority caucus, and notable NPP members, like as Gabby Otchere-Darko, were among those who accompanied Akufo-Addo.

Akufo-Addo gave the grieving family cartons of drinks as part of his generosity.
Many people consider Daddy Lumba to be one of Ghana’s best musicians. His career spanned more than thirty years and was characterised by timeless songs and significant collaborations.
