Introducing the Steel Case and New Battery for the iPhone 17 Pro

I recently got pictures of the iPhone 17 Pro battery from someone, showing off its steel shell and L-shaped design. The images show two different versions, both with unique modifications, one for the Chinese market and one for the American market. These pictures offer an early look at Apple’s plans for this model, which is anticipated to be released in September 2025. The motherboard looks to be horizontally orientated at the top, indicating a well-organised internal design. These are the specifics.

The Steel Case

For better density and heat dissipation, Apple uses a steel case, which was first utilised on the iPhone 16 Pro. The advantages of this case include:

Improved dispersion of heat

Increased opposition

Enhanced integration

The shortened logic board is accommodated by the L-shaped architecture. The Chinese and American versions clearly differ from one another.

American (U.S) Version

The version intended for the U.S. market is more expansive and does not require an actual SIM card. This design makes the most of the internal space while extending the width of the battery to maximise capacity without sacrificing performance.

Version in Chinese

The capacity to accommodate a SIM tray, which is shown in the picture with a design that includes dedicated space, while keeping the L-shaped form with minimal alterations makes the Chinese market version unique.

Technical Specifications

The module has a welded edge and a perfect polish. As mentioned in my piece here, new adhesives will make changing batteries easier. The U.S. version is wider, but the Chinese version has the SIM tray.

Possible Improvements in Charging Efficiency

Although there is no official data on charging speed, the steel case indicates better thermal management, which would allow for higher power levels, similar to the iPhone 16 Pro. This could be advantageous for both versions.

Launch and Status

This is a battery prototype that is being developed in preparation for the September 2025 release of the iPhone 17 Pro.

These pictures show how the iPhone 17 Pro evolved, with the steel casing expanding upon the design of the iPhone 16 Pro. An intriguing element is added by the Chinese version with a SIM tray and the wider U.S. version without a SIM, and excitement for the September 2025 debut is growing.
