Thomas Partey, the former football player for Arsenal, was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He was given conditional bail.
The Ghanaian, 32, was charged with five charges of rape against two women and one act of sexual assault against a third woman when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The alleged acts occurred between 2021 and 2022 while he was a member of Arsenal, a club in north London.
His contract terminated at the end of June, and he was charged four days after leaving Arsenal.
Mr Partey arrived at court with a navy blazer in hand and a black zip-neck jumper on. In the dock, he stood with his arms behind his back.
The accusations come after investigators began their investigation in February 2022 after police initially received a rape report.
Jenny Wiltshire, Mr. Partey’s attorney, previously stated that he “denies all the charges against him” and that he was grateful for “the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
